Knoxville , Tennessee. , is a picturesque and historic city located in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Mountains along the banks of the Tennessee River . Founded in 1791 and named in honor of George Washington's Secretary of War, Henry Knox, Knoxville today boasts a population of more than 170,000, according to the 2000 census.
